Quality
Coffee being a beverage, the end product should be a blend of quality, consistency in flavor and aroma. Keeping this in mind, the company has set strong quality parameters where each lot of coffee is tasted for its visual and cup characteristics. The company has its own R&D Department with state-of-the-art laboratories for carrying out various analyses.
Why Tata Coffee
The finest coffee does not happen just by chance!
At the Estates, a lot goes into the choice of the area for planting as in attitude and rainfall. Areas with soils rich in humus and gentle slopes providing good drainage are selected for growing coffees. Fertile lands are prepared for planting the seedlings nurtured in the in-house nurseries. coffee pulp and cherry husk are used as compost, which help preserve soil fertility.
The Silver Oak trees grown around the plantations give adequate sunlight and shade for the coffee's proper growth. The agrochemicals used are scrutinized in-house in the R&D laboratory before usage.
Other than scientific methods of growing coffee, indigenous methods are employed to avoid use of pesticides.
Experienced personnel adept at coffee picking handpick the coffee grown under right conditions. TATA Coffee ensures that proper care is taken to pick only the ripe berries. Picking the right type of fruit forms an essential part of processing since under-ripe and over-ripe berries cause deterioration in the cup quality. The picked coffees are then processed and sent to the company's own curing works for curing.
Correct processing techniques that are necessary to preserve and enhance the inherent qualities of good coffee and also prevent deterioration in quality, are used. In its quest for producing quality Coffee, TATA Coffee is a member of reputed international organisations like Specialty Coffee Association of India, Specialty Coffee Association of Europe and Specialty Coffee Association of America.
Cup grouping: On receipt of coffee at the curing works, each lot is cupped, segregated and cured separately.
